Camp Quality
I thought I would share some insight into an organisation I have been involved with since 2005.
Camp Quality is a non profit organisation that is committed to bringing hope and happiness to every child living with cancer, their families and communities through ongoing quality recreational, educational, hospital and financial support programs.
I started as a volunteer companion in 2005 as part of my university course’s community service component. This involved attending a 6 day camp as a companion to an eight year old boy who had childhood cancer. He was (and is) a great little kid and to look at him, you would have no idea he had been sick as he had been in remission for a couple of years. My job was to be his buddy, get involved in activitiies with him and the other kids, and be responsible for is welfare during the camp. It was a great week and I forged a lot of great friendships with adults and kids.
Since that camp in 2005, I have been on about another 7 camps with Camp Quality, some as a companion and more recently I have been in a leadership role on the camps. The camp locations have opened my eyes to rural NSW- Orange, Forbes, Albury and we even had a camp in the Northern Territory this year which was amazing.
If you are a teacher and are wondering what you are going to do with all those school holidays (no sarcasm…), then I really recommend you volunteer with Camp Quality. You won’t regret it. It won’t cost you anything but your time and what you get back is priceless.

Wow Andrew, thanks for sharing your experiences with Camp Quality! It’s great to read things like this, it seems that you’ve made a difference in other peoples lives and they’ve made a big impact on you! Does Camp Quality have camps every school holidays? How many days are they?
Thanks Kyra. There is a camp during most school holidays. They are split into different age groups and there is also a sport camp and a ski camp every year.
