Authoring and Multimedia
Authoring & Multimedia
It sounds complicated doesn’t it? It’s not. This was the area I was to present on with my tute partner Aimee. I automatically imagined that this would be some high-tech process that I would never be likely to use. I was wrong. Let me now educate you. (go on, just humor me)
What is authoring and multimedia?
*Authoring is the process of using software to create a multimedia presentation.
*Multimedia is a combination of two or more mediums including text, graphics, sound, video and animation.
So… really, I have already been authoring using multimedia for some time now. You probably have too. A simple assignment with pictures is an example.
Why is mutimedia in the classroom important?
Education and training is the largest area affected by multimedia. People learn more effectively when they use more than one of their five senses. Multimedia applications allow students to enter a total learning environments. For example, at the same time as reading histories of dolphin behaviour, the student can see diagrams of the dolphins digestive system, listen to examples of dolphin communication, and see video clips of how dolphins move through the water. Multimedia presentations allow the user to direct the flow of the program. Each student can learn at their own pace and concentrate on their own interests. (Morten et al, 1996)
